Wario Interrupts is a Challenge mode in WarioWare Gold. It is hosted by Wario Deluxe and involves the player playing microgames while under the effects of distractions/interruptions from him. The mode only offers Ultra inputs, meaning any non-boss mircogame in the game can appear. This mode takes place in Diamond City Stadium, using the same setting and visuals as Wario Deluxe's Anything Goes stage. It does not use "Introducing Wario Deluxe" as the background music, or the specific pattern of mechanics and cutscenes from the stage. Lulu's role in the proceedings is modified greatly. Wario Interrupts is unlocked after clearing Story mode, along with the Challenge mode as a whole.
Gameplay
At the start of the game and after every three microgames, Wario Deluxe will start a distraction to block the player's view of the microgames or modify the microgames to make them less clear to the player. This is prompted by a dramatic zoom in on Wario Deluxe and his laughter, as in the Anything Goes stage. Just before Wario Deluxe starts a new distraction, the current one ends immediately. The goal is to play as many microgames as possible even through the interference. Microgames are played on the lowest difficulty level only. Speed-ups happen gradually every five microgames without warning. The Top Screen always shows the environment and Wario Deluxe, even during microgames. Despite containing gameplay relevant data in this mode, the Top Screen is not blacked out when the game is paused.
After each microgame, the Hero Button in the bottom-right corner of the Touch Screen fills up slightly. Once full, Lulu starts speaking for every microgame. Tapping a full Hero Button summons Lulu, who pauses gameplay for a cutscene where she uses the Hydrocannon LX or Lulu's Balloon Buster to attack. This clears the current distraction and resets the Hero Button, while making Wario Deluxe grumble. If the next distraction was one or two microgames away, including the currently played one, that interval is skipped and all further intervals are moved one microgame ahead.
Many of the distractions can be manually cleared through specific types of inputs, even when between microgames. These distractions prevent microgames that use the inputs that are required to clear the distraction from appearing, with a corner case regarding Twist microgames that use the button. For the kinds of distractions that cannot be cleared in this way, a speech bubble next to Wario Deluxe shows a symbol representing the distraction.
Wario Deluxe can use the following distractions:

Turn the Touch Screen upside-down. In practice, this also reverses how directional controls function compared to the orientation of the screen. This heavily affects microgames with the Mash and Twist control types. Microgames with the Touch control type are affected, but usually in ways where the net result does not realistically interfere with the player. Some microgames with the Touch control type, such as Write On, Dude and Head Count, are extremely precise about the position and direction of correct swipes and therefore are made more difficult by this effect. Microgames with the Mic control type are entirely unaffected. |

Reverse the Touch Screen's colors, which makes it harder to perceive visual details of the microgame. |

Replace all sounds in microgames with the Baby Face's signature sound effect. This reads as though it is harmless, but microgames use sound effects to provide gameplay information. An alternative reading of this interruption would be "prevents the player from distinguishing different sound effects". |

Change the visual effect of the guide depicting the inputs of each microgame to always show Mash, Twist, and Touch icons at the same time. while muffling the audio cue of the guide. This is identical to the effect in the Anything Goes stage, rendering the guide mostly useless without precise hearing to catch the audio cue. |

Block the Touch Screen with one or three Tiny Wario heads, which dangle from balloons on the Top Screen. Each balloon can be popped by mashing the button displayed on it, causing the balloon to swell until it pops. The Tiny Wario head tied to that balloon then falls off-screen. If the button is not being pressed rapidly, the balloon returns to its normal size. The relevant button, which is either a direction on the |

Block the Touch Screen with two paint blobs of random colors. The blobs are never the same color. Swiping the Touch Screen has the player use a sponge to rub away the paint. This distraction's presence prevents microgames with the Touch control type from appearing. |

Shrink the display on Touch Screen. The unused space on the Touch Screen is black. |

Block the Touch Screen with a transparent glass full of wine. The wine shifts left and right when the system is tilted in those directions, and gradually drains out of the glass while the system is tilted far enough. Once all of the wine has been removed, the glass leaves the screen. This interruption prevents microgames using Twist inputs from appearing until it is cleared. |
